NORTH EAST LINK FREEWAY UPGRADE

The proposed North East Link Program (NELP) freeway upgrades will connect the Metropolitan ring road (M80) and Eastern Freeway (M3), completing a ring road around Melbourne which includes the Monash Freeway (M1). As part of the project there will be upgrades to the M3 and M80, which will be delivered through Secondary Packages.

 

Kyriacou were engaged by Laing O’Rourke within the Eastern Burke to Tram Rd Alliance (EBTA), to deliver the Architecture & Urban Design for the RFP and delivery phase of the NELP South package. Kyriacou in collaboration with BKK Architects and TCL Landscape Architects led the design for the project including responding to the NELP Urban Design Strategy, including urban design and integration of the infrastructure, architectural treatments across the project, and road and pedestrian bridges designs. development.   


The South Package – one of four secondary packages – will widen the Eastern Freeway between Bourke Road in

the west and Tram Road in the east.

 

The Package scope includes:

  • An interchange with the tunnel connecting M80 and M3

  • A full freeway to freeway interchange with the Eastern Freeway

  • Additional lanes to the Eastern Freeway, including express lanes

  • Construction of the Doncaster Busway along the Eastern Freeway

  • Pedestrian SUP bridges for cross corridor connectivity

  • Civil infrastructure, noise walls, retaining walls and urban design features, and

  • New and upgraded cycling infrastructure.
